Wednesday

First:

Today you are going to look at another type of note taking, mind mapping.

In blog post write a little about mind mapping. How does the method work? When could you use it? What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? Are there any questions you have about the process?

I would like you to find some images of mind mapping examples and include them in your post.

Next:

I want you to search out a method of note taking that you think is pretty awesome, or a set of tips on note taking that is especially helpful.

Search YouTube or other video site for a video on note taking. Create a new blog post introducing the method or set of tips and why you think other people should watch the video. Embed the video in your blog post.

Last:

1. Take a few minutes to look over your classmates blogs. Here is the list.

2. Choose four blogs to comment on. When you comment on a blog you need to say something you like about the post and ask them a follow-up question. (Any negative comments will result in consequences)

3. On your own blog respond to your comments and questions as you receive them from your classmates.

Cornell Notes

First, finish up any posts that are incomplete from last week.

Then...I want you to work on improving your blog a bit.

Here is a link to a YouTube channel full of tutorials. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFbogLJ2e0r599XU6lII9qKwVE1msQ9EM His voice is a little hard to listen to, but he has good information. Just pick a few videos to watch and then try one of the tips on your blog.

Then you are going to look at a note taking method.

While you may not realize how important it is now, note taking is an essential skill for college and really for the rest of high school. There are many different styles of note taking, and ways to improve your current note taking. We are going to start with Cornell Notes.

Start by watching this video...

In blog post write a little about Cornell notes. How does the method work? When could you use it? What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? Are there any questions you have about the process?

Lastly, I would like you to write about how the first month of school is going. Respond in detail (long answers) to each of the following questions:

1. What has been the best part of school?
2. What has been the most frustrating part?
3. Have you kept the same study habits from 8th grade or have you tried anything new?
4. What class are you most looking forward to? Why?
5. What class do you think will be the hardest for you? Why?
6. What have you noticed is different about being in high school? Do you like it more or less than junior high?

Forms, Drawings, and Resources

First I would like you to play with another one of the Google Apps- Google Forms.

Here is a video that explains how to use forms.

On your blog please come up with a fun form for your classmates to respond to. Keep it appropriate, but it can be silly like favorite food or sports.

Next please watch this tutorial...

Then I want you to create a google drawing. For today you can make it anything you want. The goal is to play with the features of google drawing so you know how to use it. Embed your drawing in a new blog post.

Your last task is to think about using the internet as a resource for your classes. Write out your class schedule for the day and write out one or two online resources that you could use to help you succeed in that class. Here is an example with the classes I teach. (I am not including links in my example, but I want you to have links in your post) Please be creative and look for sites, games, and resources that are beyond the obvious.

Internet Safety and Google Slides

Step 1: Read these articles

Please read the following 2 articles about internet safety.

One of them is more about practical safety and the other addresses our conduct online.

Write a blog post that summarizes the two articles and includes at least 2 things you learned from reading

them.

https://cliqz.com/en/magazine/10-tips-better-internet-safety (I like their use of the word dubious)

https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/how-should-christians-comment-online

Step 2: Make a Google Slideshow

In Google slides create a slideshow about internet safety.

It should be at least 10 slides, have at least 10 pictures and be visually appealing.

Be sure to include an introduction slide and a slide that has a bibliography with sources for any

information you may have gotten from other websites.

The idea is that you are taking the list of things you made yesterday and moving them into a slide show.

Step 3: Create a new blog post and embed your slideshow into the post.

If you are not sure how to do that here are some instructions GO HERE

Tuesday- SMART Goals and Social Media

Begin today by watching this short video...(wait for me and we will watch it together)

Now I would like you to create 3 SMART goals for yourself. Each goal should be clearly a SMART goal, meaning that it is specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time bound.

After you have written your SMART goals please read the following article and respond.

Begin by writing 3-5 sentences with a summary of the article. Then answer the following questions: How would you characterize your current relationship with social media? Healthy? Unhealthy? Why? What do you think of the solutions that the author offers? Are any of them something you might try? What good things do you think can come from our use of social media and technology?

Look through the two lists and choose one app or website to read and learn more about.

In a blog post respond to the following:

What app/website did you choose?

What does it do?

How do you get it?

How do you think it could help someone better manage their time??

Include at least one picture in your blog post and at least one link where people can find more information about the app.
